From England to France
Due to severely high winds, our flight from London to Paris was significantly delayed. At least ours wasn't canceled like so many others. After a lovely morning saying Bye Bye to our most wonderful English hosts (Dot and Pop) we spent the day at Heathrow. I've never seen such a collection of cultures all mingling in one place. As Alaskans we were in significant minority.
There were flights departing to all over the world, and the population of Terminal 4 showed it. Considering many people had been stranded all day they were remarkable well behaved. This was a contrast to the short tempers and typical over-privileged attitude I've seen in so many American airports when things don't go people's way.
So we let Meadow run around and say "Hi" to everyone while we waited and finally boarded our plane and didn't enjoy an extremely bumpy 45 minute flight to Paris.
After landing we rushed to the train station only to find we'd missed the last train of the day to Avignon. So we shacked up, had a nice French breakfast, and spent Tuesday traveling to Avignon. I think I speak for the whole family when I say "I love trains!". The TGV from Paris to Avignon took us 350 miles in 2.5 hours. That's an average of 140MPH! WoooHooo.
Once in Avignon we took a cab to our digs in Saint-Remy-De-Provence. We chose St-Remy due to its central location in the Provence region: an ideal home-base for our explorations. Here we've rented a lovely apartment right near the center of town. Today (Wednesday) was the weekly market so we bought plenty of fresh veggies, some pasta, coffee, and of course wine.
