What was I thinking?

Meadow's learning all kinds of new stuff on our European vacation. For the first time she's started stringing two words together "No mama" and her vocabulary has increased (she can now say "wine"). She also learned how to blow bubbles. To encourage her newfound blowing skills I bought her this insanely ridiculous toy:

So are you trying to raise an extremely annoying child or are you just clueless?

"annoying" commenter: You don't seem like a parent. Or, you're just a very angry one?

Over the last few months we've noticed Meadow growing a bit more shy. She used to go up to anyone and make exclamations but now she has a longer "warm-up" period with new people.

While in England we were chatting with Zed and her friend Ben in regards to their work with theater students. They were commenting that a lot of their work entails getting the teenage students to let go of all the limitations they have with self expression. Naturally the question came up of "at what point does a child begin to censor themselves and internalize their previously unbridled self expression?". Ben gave a great answer that I think about often: "As soon as they get told 'Shhhh' for the first time".

So, while it may annoy the less-flexible people around us, we're going to try to keep the Shhh's within reason so as to let Meadow be as comfortable expressing herself as possible.
