Windsor Castle

Today we spent the day with Alastair and Dorothy at Windsor. Queen Elizabeth wasn't available, even though I told her staff that Meadow was here from Alaska and wanted to have tea. They said the Queen had some important dinner or something or other to get ready for, so I let them know she could just come and get us if she had a few minutes to spare. She never did, so I suppose she'll have to catch up with us later.

So we spent the rest of our time strolling the grounds, the state apartments with their room after room of priceless works of art and weapons, and St. George's cathedral with its many tombs of past Kings and Queens (including the recently departed Queen Mother). We also got to chat with quite a few lovely castle attendants.

The tidbits on the complimentary audio-guides weren't very interesting, so if you go and want to learn interesting history I recommend a tour or reading a book beforehand. There's plenty to be gleaned from the very helpful staff sprinkled around the place, so chatting them up was a bonus.

Another thing to keep in mind is that strollers aren't allowed in the apartments so if you have a wee one bring your Ergo or sling.
